Craft the stories that will help you create clients - for the rest of your life.
You’re at a dinner party and the person next to you says, “What do you do?” You freeze… You don’t want to say you’re a coach. ‘Everyone’ is a coach these days. Or, maybe, where you live, no one has even heard of coaching. You try to come up with a clever response but they look at you and laugh, “Oh. You're a life coach…” They don't mean it as a compliment. You want to slink away and hide.
You want to create a really professional website but you’re completely stuck. How do you make it stand out when there are thousands of coaching websites? You've tried copying successful coaches but then you don't sound authentic… You've tried writing your own copy but then you don't sound powerful…
You want to publish a book. A book that your dream clients will love. But there are millions of books on Amazon. What the heck do you write about? Maybe you already wrote a book. You were pretty vulnerable. You shared your life story. You are proud of it – and it sold a bunch of copies to family, friends (and some kind clients). But that was it. What do you do now?
You used to be a Senior Vice President, maybe a CEO. You've got one or two decades in corporate behind you. Now you're a coach. You're about to have dinner with your old colleagues and you pray they won't ask about coaching. You love coaching and you're happy to have left corporate. But how on earth will you describe what you do and make it sound serious? What can you say that will have your peer group respect you?
Coaching is a fantastic career.
Telling people about coaching
can feel like hell on earth.
Coaching isn't a title.
It's a tool.
Coaches love coaching. I get it. It's fun. It makes a massive impact. It changes clients’ lives. It can help them make millions of dollars, build successful companies, run non-profits or even thrive as an artist.
The mistake most coaches make when they're asked about what they do is to tell people that they're a ‘coach’. Or, even worse, they start talking about their unique coaching process or the name of their numerous coaching certifications. Nobody cares and it makes you around needy!
I'm not a ‘coach’. Coaching is just one of the tools in my tool belt. Sometimes, I'm a coach. Sometimes, I'm a consultant. Sometimes, I'm a trusted advisor. Often I'm a hybrid of all three.
When someone asks what you do,
you don't have to answer their question…
Instead, you can be like a politician on TV. Answer the question you wish you'd been asked!
People don't actually want a standard answer to that question. They want an interesting conversation. But if you give a boring answer, they'll label you and walk away, “So, you're a coach. That's nice…”
"If you think branding is important, you are right. If you think you should spend money on branding, you are right. But if you think your brand is your visual identity—logo, website, product packaging, that sort of thing—then you are completely and miserably wrong, and very likely to waste a lot of money." -- Neil Patel
You already have a brand. You just don't know it.
Your brand is what people say is missing when you leave a room. Your brand is what people can count on you for. Your brand is how people talk about you, when you're not there.
Your brand is the stories of your previous career, that you're secretly proud of but rarely share. Your brand is your personal stories that make you cry. Your brand is the stories of your clients’ successes.
When you can share these stories, people get to really know you. When they know you, they begin to like you. When they like you, they begin to trust you.
When people know, like and trust you, they feel safe. When they feel safe, they're happy to pay you money.
There are 3 mysteries in the universe. Birds to the air, fish to water; and humans to themselves…
In the process of drawing out your brand, you'll begin to truly know, like and trust yourself.
When you truly know yourself, other people get curious to know more. When you like yourself, you feel confident – and that's deeply attractive. And when you trust yourself, others trust you.
You need to become a storyteller...
In one of my branded sessions:
Until now, I've only offered this experience to my private clients. I only do 9 of these sessions a year. The spots are often booked up months ahead.
- We will meet for (1) one-on-one call together.
- We will block out an hour but we're often done in thirty minutes.
- You'll get the recording of our conversation and a transcript within 24 hours.
You're not investing in the time we spend together. You're crafting the stories that will help you create clients – for the rest of your life.
You'll leave with a renewed sense of deep, inner confidence and that's highly attractive to clients.
Your Investment: $9K

"What are you terrified people will find out?"
In this episode, I draw out Bob's story. It's a story so powerful that it moves both of us to tears... In fact, Bob shares with me a secret he has hidden from the world for 45 years. As you listen, ask yourself, What are YOU hiding from the world? What are you terrified people will find out? When you are a powerful coach, it's often the things that scare you to share out loud that are what has your clients want to work with you...
