A personal Message
Can you remember the moment you decided to become a coach? The possibilities ahead of you… How good it felt to be paid to transform people’s lives… I remember those feelings so well.
I remember the landmark moments in my coaching journey… like the first time I was paid $1,000 by a man from Greece for a single coaching session. Or the time I coached a woman in-person in Beijing, China. She handed me an envelope with $1,000 cash for our coaching session. I felt like a spy in the movies!
To this day, I remember the first time I was handed a check for $20,000 for a year of coaching. I remember the first client who wired me a check for $50K, $75K, and $100K. And I remember my first Thinking Partner client who invested $47K for ten sessions. That’s effectively $4,700/hour. But they didn’t see it that way because they renewed that contract three times. That’s the power of value-based fees.
But I also remember so many of the challenges I faced along the way… When I was new to coaching, I was scared to challenge a highly successful client, and she soon fired me. When my father passed away, I was too overwhelmed to enroll clients – and for 9 months, my bank account went down and down and down. A few years ago, I was so burned out by coaching too many clients that I had to take a drastic pause, and I ran up a $100,000 credit card bill just to keep the business going. And one year, I received a $300,000 tax bill because the business had been so successful that we’d outgrown our accountant, who didn’t have the needed strategies.
My journey to becoming a million-dollar coach has been full of twists and turns, successes and struggles, plus a ton of learning. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it…
