No, No, No, No, No, Yes
It’s Outrageous October and a group of my colleagues and friends are playing a game of collecting No’s, making bold requests and failing spectacularly. Here’s why:
“In the beginning, I thought every No was
the end of the world. But the reality is
different.
Because No is part of life.
No doesn’t come with an exclamation
point (No!) No comes with a comma (No,)”
– Gideon Amichay
Gideon Amichay’s mother wanted him to be a doctor. But he just wanted to be a cartoonist and he dreamed of drawing a cover for the New Yorker magazine. He left Jerusalem for NY and sent a sketch to the New Yorker week after week after week. And he received rejection after rejection after rejection—for six long, long years…
He’s a very gentle speaker and if you have the patience to watch his TED talk until the end he tells a story of one drawing of his that has a 23 year journey before it receives a yes:

Gideon is the author of a book called No, No, No, No, No, Yes. He has been ranked among The 100 Most Influential People in Israel and his creative agency, also called No, No, No, No, No, Yes has won dozens of awards, including one from the United Nations.
How many No’s did YOU collect this week?
And what mission inspires YOU enough to go out and collect even more No’s?
