I have written every day for the past 17 years. If you like to read, I've got your back - and I promise to challenge your thinking.

Why you shouldn’t join the 4 Percent Club (4PC)

Why you shouldn't join the 4 Percent Club (4PC)

Wondering if my program 4PC is right for you?

4PC requires a substantial investment of money, time, and energy, so it’s not a decision to be taken lightly.

But I’ve got good news: the 4PC is oversubscribed, and a spot won’t open up until somebody leaves – and our members stay with us for years. So you have plenty of time to consider joining.

What is 4PC?

Being an extraordinary top performer is one thing: being surrounded by them is another.

4PC is a hand-picked, highly curated community of the top 4% of leaders and coaches. We think differently, we challenge the status quo, we’re unorthodox and we achieve the ‘impossible’ – on a regular basis.

What you get

  • Incredible support from our amazing community and from me, via personalized coaching approximately twice a month
  • Leadership opportunities to motivate a small group of coaches – or take to the stage in front of hundreds at our 4PC Accelerator
  • A world-class community of high-potential people who really get you: you’ll be a member of a private Forum, where you can stay connected and have high-caliber conversations
  • Transformation over time, in the presence of extraordinary top performers, so you can achieve goals that seem impossible.

I’ve turned away millions of dollars over the years by saying no to people who weren’t quite the right fit for 4PC. So when a place becomes available, will it be the right fit for you?

Let’s take a look at some reasons you might decide it’s not…

1. You don’t have a track record of success

A couple of years ago, I started to joke that 72.3% of the value from being in 4PC is from the other participants, not from me…now, I say that’s no longer a joke.

Don’t get me wrong, you’ll get a huge amount of value from me: private in-person Intensives; twice-monthly Deep Coaching sessions over Zoom, and more.

But I work really hard to make sure that the people sitting alongside you at our events bring with them experiences worth millions of dollars. Our members and alumni include:

  • A personal aide to President Barack Obama
  • A coach to leaders at the World Bank
  • Entrepreneurs with 7-figure businesses
  • Entrepreneurs who have sold 7-figure businessesAn autism expert who turned down an offer of $10,000,000 to fund her dream clinic
  • A former Navy Seal and a former Navy bomb disposal expert
  • A coach with clients on Broadway
  • One of the world’s leading podcasters
  • Coaches with $500,000 clients
  • The CEO of a multi-million dollar non-profit.

Whatever challenge you’ve got going on, there’ll be a dozen people at 4PC who could give you some valuable insights. And you’ll be expected to add value for others as well. That’s why you shouldn’t join 4PC unless you’ve already experienced success.

2. You don’t have big dreams and a larger mission

But having experienced success in the past isn’t enough.

Recently, I went to a talk by a guy who was in one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s – and I found it a little sad. Because all he talked about was the past: forty or fifty years ago, when the band was at the height of its fame.

If all you can bring to 4PC is stories of the successes you had in the past, you won’t be a good fit. 4PC members are working on big missions. To be a part of it, your future has got to be bigger than your past.

3. You aren’t doing things that scare you

There’s a surprising truth that separates successful people from the rest. It’s not talent, luck, or fearlessness. It’s their relationship with fear.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve coached Olympic athletes, special forces operatives, multi-millionaire entrepreneurs juggling several companies, Hollywood film directors, and single parents building businesses. And I’ve uncovered a universal truth: they almost all do it scared. (If they don’t, they’re often not dreaming big enough!)

If you aren’t doing something big, exciting, or scary – you’re not the right fit for 4PC.

4. You’re in desperate need of clients…now

I talked to a woman recently who really wants to be in 4PC. She’s very successful, she could afford to invest in herself by paying for 4PC, and I really like her: she’ll probably make a great 4PC member one day. But she’s new to coaching. So I said ‘I can’t take you yet, because your focus is going to be on wanting to get clients.’

We all want to grow our businesses, and that’s something all 4PC members probably focus on at some point – but we’re never short of coaching clients. If your main focus right now is on building your list, then come back to 4PC once you’ve done that.

5. You’re not willing to be vulnerable in a group setting

Brené Brown says that vulnerability is our most accurate measure of courage.

She says that if you take a big step and make yourself vulnerable, it is pretty likely that the next morning you’ll wake up thinking, “Oh my God! Why did I share that? What was I thinking?”

That’s a ‘Vulnerability Hangover’!

What we teach in 4PC is that if you DON’T feel a ‘Vulnerability Hangover’ the next morning, then you probably didn’t go far enough.

4PC is a place you can never get too big or too messy. You can brag about your achievements and we’ll celebrate with you; you can share your failures and mistakes and we’ll share ours.

If you’re not ready to share your vulnerabilities in front of a group of successful people, 4PC is not for you.

6. You have limited resources for investment

Membership of 4PC costs $30,000 a year (and I ask people to make a internal commitment that they’re going to be in for a minimum of three years), and travel and accommodation to our in-person events costs around another $10,000.

Investing in yourself is a choice – one that requires commitment and sometimes sacrifice. If you’re not able or willing to make that choice and invest, you won’t be the best fit for 4PC, at least right now.

7. You’re happy staying where you are

A while ago, I tasked a member of my team with helping me do the things I’m afraid of. They said “Well, what are you afraid of?” And I said, “I’ve always secretly wanted to do boxing, but I’ve never been brave enough.” I got a text the next day that said, ‘You’re signed up to a boxing class round the corner to you.’ So I started boxing.

And then one day, I was getting a haircut at 7 in the morning, before I took the boys to school, and by chance, the guy who created that boxing school was there. He’s a really high-level boxer, a very successful entrepreneur and also an actor. And he mentioned that he’d been training at 4 that morning with his trainer. He does that every day.

Two days later, I was out shopping with my boys when someone called my name – and it was him, running down the street. It was 4 in the afternoon and he was jogging. 12 hours after his first training session.

What I realized was this: we tend to think that mastery and success is a place we can get to, and there we can finally relax. But if you want to be a master, the game doesn’t change. You’re always playing. You’re always stretching yourself. You’re always pushing yourself.

If you’re not willing to keep pushing yourself, don’t join 4PC.

8. You don’t want to have fun and travel to new places

Part of the 4PC experience is travelling to different places around the world with the group. We’re going to Vancouver Island later this year; next year, I’m taking everyone to Wolf Connection, a wolf sanctuary owned by a 4PC member; after that we’re going to Romania because a member of 4PC has a hotel that overlooks Dracula’s castle!

4PC is only for you if you’re up for travelling and exploring new things.

9. You’re not already accustomed to high-level coaching

You don’t learn from your experience: you learn from reflecting on your experience. That’s why you need a coach.

If you’re not a coach or haven’t been coached at a very high level already, you won’t understand that coaching mindset or get the value from 4PC.

Reasons we turn people away from the 4PC

As well as fitting all the criteria we’ve mentioned so far, we also want our membership to be diverse:

  • Diversity of thought: we don’t want a group who all think alike
  • Diversity of background: we want to learn from a range of different ages, races, nationalities, cultures and more
  • Diversity of experience: we want to benefit from the wisdom that comes with a whole different range of experiences.

That means if you’re too similar in your background, experiences or way of thinking to the current group, you might get turned away the first time you apply.

We also want members who are there to support one another and grow together – so if you’re not prepared to give as much as you take, we might say no.

Ready to take your coaching to the next level?

If you read all those headings above and thought ‘that doesn’t sound like me’, you might just be ready to get involved in 4PC. Start your journey here.
