Jen Gresham is my Apprentice, a member of 4PC and one of the most extraordinary people I know.
Jen is the former Assistant Chief Scientist for the Human Performance Wing of the Air Force Research Lab, where she helped direct a $100 million research and development portfolio.
She earned her PhD in biochemistry in 3 years, half the time most students take. She was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and named one of the top scientists in the Air Force.
She’s also a published poet and a successful blogger and a loving mom.
A year ago Jen was telling me how intense and scary it felt making $10,000 proposals. I get it, I said.
And then I did something counterintuitive.
I told her to start making $100,000 proposals!
After all, if asking for $10K is scary, you might as well ask for $100K—you’re scared ANYWAY, right? I said.
And she began making $100K proposals.
Update: Jen now has $100K clients.
A $100 MILLION MISSION
Right now, Jen’s big mission is to ensure that humans don’t become obsolete in the workplace due to artificial intelligence and automation.
You see, in less than a decade, a whole range of careers will be obsolete. The personal and emotional toll on the families impacted by this shift will be huge. The global financial impact and the instability created could be massive.
And she’s raising $100 million to fund a prize to have companies compete to solve this problem and bring real innovation to the future of work.
We were on a coaching call and I asked her, WHY is this mission important to you?
And I captured what she said to me next on video.
You see, whilst I was impressed with her lofty goal to raise such a huge sum of money to solve one of humanity’s grand challenges—but I know that IF YOU WANT TO MOVE PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO FIRST LET YOURSELF FEEL MOVED.
Here’s a clip of Jen telling me about her mission from our coaching call.
Now remember, this is raw and in the moment—it’s NOT supposed to be a glossy pitch to investors to raise funds.
It’s Jen speaking from her heart. And it’s powerful. Because Jen is such a powerful woman with such a big heart.
She had a huge vulnerability hangover the next day.
But that’s ok—because if she didn’t, then we hadn’t gone deep enough, right?
When you’ve watched it, comment below and tell me YOUR mission—and even more importantly tell me your WHY…
